There is a service charge of $60.00 for the year to send and receive E-mail. The girls will be able to access their current email addresses through this method. This payment is to be included with the tuition checks. WHAT TO BRING?
The climate in Israel is divided into two major seasons:
Winter: from Chanukah until after Purim The winter in Yerushalayim is colder than in Ramat Beit Shemesh, but should also be taken into consideration when packing, as you may be spending some time there as well. Although the temperature rarely goes below freezing, the cold is felt both inside and outside the home. Therefore, we suggest you bring along proper clothing: winter coat (preferably a warm, waterproof rain coat, as wool coats are almost unnecessary in Yerushalayim because of the cold, rainy weather), warm waterproof boots, umbrella, hat scarf, gloves, several sweaters, 3-4 wool skirts, (preferably those that do not need dry cleaning) winter pajamas, thermal underwear, robe, shoes, slippers, tube socks and tights.
Summer: from Pesach until after the Yomim Noraim For the summer bring 3 or 4 skirts and shirts, summer pajamas, robe, slippers, sandals, etc. A light jacket (necessary for cool evenings) bathing attire, tiyul hat, walking shoes or sneakers (essential) LINEN AND BEDDING Tzofiah does not provide bedding. Please bring a pillow, blanket, linens and towels. SHABBOS DRESS
2-3 Shabbos outfits for each season is sufficient. Shabbos clothing should preferably be wrinkle free, even after removed from a tote bag. It is advisable to bring a small tote bag or case for going away for Shabbos. Students must keep in mind to bring modest dress for Shabbos. NOTE: Dry cleaning is available in Israel, but it is more expensive here than elsewhere. (Please bring any hangers or skirt hangers you may need)
Since the school is located in a neighborhood that is sensitive to a certain code of Tznius, it will be a requirement to comply with the dress code that we have noted in the policy sheet, skirts covering knees, sleeves (no cap sleeves) and necklines reaching the collar bone. If a skirt has a slit, the slit must not reach above the knee. Shirts must be long enough to cover the whole stomach area and navel. Some essential items that others have found very helpful to bring along:
1. Prescription drugs you may need. (While most prescription and non-prescription drugs, cosmetics and sundries are available locally, albeit more expensive, you may not be able to obtain exactly what you need) 2. A supply of your local postage stamps for travelers who will take mail back to be posted. 3. Any musical instrument that you play, or tools for your hobby. 4. At least one flashlight with extra batteries (essential) 5. A 220 volt alarm clock (110 volt clocks do not work even with converters). 6. Hangers 7. Reserve supply of rechargeable batteries, adapter and transformer for 220 volts 8. Water shoes 9. There seems to be a problem with contact lens boilers in Israel. We would suggest using either CooperVision boiler that plugs directly into the wall and works on dual voltage, or transfer to chemical disinfectant. 10. Sewing kit 11. Camera and film 12. Laundry bag 13. CD or tape player 14. Favorite music CD's and tapes
We cannot overly stress how limited closet and storage space will be. Your clothing needs are definitely less than at home. Please do not overload. This will only cause discomfort. Speak to students who have spent a year in Israel to get a realistic idea of what should or should not be brought along. It is not advisable to bring valuables, jewelry of sentimental value, expensive cameras or large sums of money. Tzofiah accepts no responsibility for stolen or lost property. LAUNDRY A washer and dryer are available for student use, and a reasonable amount of detergent will be allotted to each student. SHABBOS AND YOM TOV We at Tzofiah feel that it is our responsibility to be involved with each girl's Shabbos and Yom Tov experience. Many of you have relatives and friends living here in Israel and will want to spend some Shabbosim and Yomim Tovim with them. In this area as well we feel a responsibility to monitor such visits. There will be instances in which we may feel that the atmosphere in a certain home is not in accordance with our standards, (or is completely unknown to us,) and therefore we will ask you to make those visits during the week. 3 Shabbosim out of the month will be spent in RBS, either all together in the dorm, or set up within the community, by mentors or by a family of your choice. One Shabbos a month, and Yom-Tov will be spent out of RBS either at relatives, a family of your choice (provided that it is approved by the Tzofiah staff), or a family that Tzofiah will set you up with. It is a Tzofiah policy that the students do not return home for Pesach, as a crucial part of the program at Tzofiah is the uninterrupted growth within the therapeutic environment. KASHRUS You will be confronting a number of new Kashrus issues here in Israel (e.g.- Orlah, Trumos, Maasros, Shmittah, etc...), as well as a host of unknown "hechsherim" in dealing with general issues of Kashrus. Tzofiah has developed clear rules to guide our students. We must insist that these rules be consistently followed within the school confines. CLASS SUPPLIES Siddur - Tehillim 2 -3 Divided notebooks 10 pencils and pens Art supplies; pastel crayons, paints, drawing paper, etc
Although these supplies are available locally, notebooks and pens are considerably more expensive in Israel, so it is advisable that you bring enough to last the entire school year.
VISA INFORMATION Upon your arrival in Ben-Gurion airport you will be given a visa slip. This slip is important! Do not throw it away. Your passport and visa slip will be held in the administration office for safekeeping. You will be required to renew your visa approximately half way through the school year. The office makes all arrangements for renewal and payment of renewal fees. The fee is approximately $40 and should be included with all other tuition fees. TELEPHONES
There will be a telephone in the dormitory that will only accept incoming calls. You will receive the telephone number when you arrive, and may pass it on to anyone you would like to receive calls from. Cellular phones are being arranged for your personal use, and so that we may be in touch with you at all times. The cellular phone is a Tzofiah requirement for safety reasons. The rental cost of the phone is $150 for the school year, which also covers the cost of insurance for loss or breakage. "Air time" is purchased with calling cards in NIS denominations. This expense comes out of your allowance, as Tzofiah does not cover this cost. HEALTH INSURANCE A Shiloach Health Insurance form is included in the acceptance package. It must be filled out and sent back with all fees before arrival in Israel. This method of insurance is MANDATORY for our students. The insurance covers any necessary doctors visits, medical emergencies and most medications. It does not cover dental care, psychiatric care or psychiatric emergencies. In the event that the student requires medical attention not covered by Shiloach, the school must be reimbursed immediately for any treatment or associated costs for the required treatment. Please do not send your daughter without this vital aspect taken care of. TUITION
No student will be allowed to attend Tzofiah until all financial obligations have been met. This includes tuition and all supplementary fees. All forms and waivers requiring notarization must be properly notarized by an official notary, bearing his/her seal. |
